Energy-Onix Exciter Repair

Wednesday, July 11, 2012:  A rack mounted Energy-Onix SST-30 FM Exciter.
The RF power amplifier module of the exciter had a failed transistor.  Since those transistors are no long available, an alternative solution needed to be found.  The answer, in this case, was a pallet amplifier from Broadcast Concepts for about $270 plus shipping.  That new amplifier can be seen in green between the ruler and the original amplifier.
This is the new amplifier after it was bolted down to the original SST-30 PA heat sink and wired in appropriately.

The original amplifier circuit card was removed and discarded.   The difficult part was the amplifier's metal cover, which had to be cut away on one side to accommodate the larger module footprint.

The project all worked out quite well with the exciter restored to its former glory.

The stories go on and on.  Stop in again sometime.  I'll leave the soldering iron on for you.
