Technical
Tips from Mark W. Persons |
|
This is a Nautel J1000, a 1000 watt AM transmitter in daily service. It looks good and is making full power. So, what's the problem? |
If you remove the front panel
cover and look behind, you see a lot of accumulated dirt on the air filters.
Ouch!...we need to be more diligent in taking a pro-active stand on keeping the
filters clean for best reliability.
This transmitter is not alone in needing regular maintenance. All transmitter air filters need to be checked and cleaned on a regular basis. FM exciters are no exception. Viewing and cleaning is a monthly job in many locations. The goal is to prevent equipment heat failure due to plugged air filters. Story from September 22, 2011. |
The stories go on and on.
Stop in again sometime. I'll leave the soldering iron on for you.
