AM Loop Receive Antenna

Built by M. W. Persons and Associates, Inc.
Made in Minnesota

The AM RX-2 Receive Antenna is for AM radio stations that need a good outdoor receiving antenna for a monitor receiver or modulation monitor.  A one-foot ruler in the center of the photo shows approximate size.  The antenna is made of 1-1/2 inch PVC tubing with a PVC box at the bottom.  The antenna assembly measures 23 inches wide x 22 inches high, by 4-1/2 inches deep.

This is the amplifier portion of the antenna.  Using four transistors, it provides 35 dB of gain from the wire loop, 500 kHz through 1700 kHz.

There is not enough gain in this antenna to drive a a traditional AM modulation monitor, such as the Belar AMM series.  They need a frequency selective amplifier, such as a Belar RFA-2 RF Amplifier with gain which typically outputs 5 to 10 volts RMS of RF to the monitor.

The AM RX-2 Receive Antenna is $498, including a DC power insertion box that goes in the coaxial cable between the antenna amplifier and a receiver.  The antenna can feed 75 ohm cable, such as RG-6 or RG-59.  It can also work with 50 ohm cable, such as RG-58 with BNC Connectors.  Just specify F or BNC connectors when ordering.  Cable is sold separately.  See: http://www.mwpersons.com/BNC-cables.html
