2006 Christmas Greetings from Mark, Paula & Josie the cat
|
It seems hard to believe we moved here nearly three years ago. After a long wait, we got the design and planted our yard completely in wildflowers and grasses in the Fall of 2005. Of course, 2006 brought Minnesota the worst drought in 30 years. Needless to say, we didn’t see many wildflowers. We did plant two apple trees. Two weeks later a very hungry deer wandered by and we now have one apple tree. We did receive the fern Paula’s parents had in their living room, which was her great grandmother’s. So far that is flourishing—there is hope even for Paula.
Mark is busy as ever building and repairing radio stations. He did take time off to attend the Dayton Hamvention in Ohio with three other Amateur Radio Operators from Brainerd. They took turns driving the 15 hours each way and had a great time for four days. Mark suffered a detached retina in his right eye and had an operation to reattach it on July 15th. Still not back to normal and it may take another operation to improve it. Won’t know until January or later. Paula completed her year as President of the Brainerd Noon Rotary Club July 1st. It was time consuming but she learned much and has many wonderful memories. What a great experience. Paula continues to enjoy scuba diving, even did a dive under the ice in March. She has been looking for an artifact and found the jug shown in 40 ft of water in Round Lake near Garrison. It is in pristine condition. Over Labor Day weekend she spent three days with friends on a boat diving Lake Superior. Paula was able to dive two shipwrecks from 1905, the Hesper and the Maderia. It is something she never thought she would have the opportunity to try. It is amazing to see what the fury of a storm on Lake Superior can do to a steel or wooden ship. She also attended a civil war reenactment weekend in Pipestone, MN and thoroughly enjoyed visiting with the participants. She sure learned her civil war history that weekend. We want to wish each and every one of you a very Merry Christmas with Peace, Joy and the Best of Health in the upcoming year. |
