Engineer's Log of Mark W. Persons |
![]() |
April 29, 2008: Mark Young, Chief Engineer for the St. Cloud, MN, group of Regent stations, reported a problem with a detuned tower near his 1390 KHz directional antenna system. After not too much troubleshooting, he determined that lightning had hit the tower and crushed the top nine turns of a detuning network coil. The lightning created a very high magnetic field in the coil. You can see the results in the photo on the left. |

Mark
removed the coil, straightened the turns, and the turned the coil over
to use the other end. The detuning system works fine now with all
parameters returning to normal.

The stories go on and on. Stop in
again sometime. I'll leave the soldering iron on for you.
