Engineer's Log
Wisconsin Broadcast Engineer Gathering

Tuesday, October 10, 2017:  The annual Wisconsin Broadcasters' Clinic was held at the Marriott West in Middleton, WI.
This beautiful hotel has been home to the broadcast engineer gathering for many years.
Rightfully so, the rooms overlook an interior gathering area with bar and restaurant.
Good friend Kirk Harnack of Telos Alliance was one of the speakers.  His subject was VoIP Voice over Internet Protocol for telephone calls.
Very interesting subject.  Done right, the audio quality can be excellent.

Some 227 engineers registered to attend the conference.
It is one of the best in the country, second only to the Texas Broadcasters Association according to one person.

John Keen, of Cavell Mertz & Associates, was there to tell how he used drones to measure RF signal levels around towers.
Then Mark was interviewed by (l) Kirk Harnack and (r) Chris Tobin on TWiRT, This Week in Radio and Television.
It is a weekly Internet show by and for broadcast engineers, which runs for a full hour.
Mark said he was amazed that radio studios can now program without a traditional audio console.  Audio mixing can now be done completely with a computer monitor.

This guy is Steve Lampen of Belden.  He is sought after as a wonderful/funny speaker at conferences like this.
His topic was the new data cable for 12 GHz.  This is ground breaking next generation technology.  Interesting stuff.
The Wisconsin Broadcasters Clinic is worth going to.

The stories go on and on.  Stop in again sometime.  I'll leave the soldering iron on for you.
