Engineer's Log
St. Cloud, MN, Hamfest

Saturday, February 18, 2017:   The St. Cloud Amateur Radio Club puts on a hamfest every year.
This time it was at the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, Minnesota.
The display floor was huge and several hundred hams attended.  There were technical sessions in nearby classrooms as well.

Lots of happy hams buying, selling, and trading electronic equipment.

Mark W0MH was there with his long time friend Randy Aldous KC0EGE.  Mark was wearing his "Zenith Long Distance Radio" shirt.
Mark remembers this old Hallicrafters SX-42 Receiver from 1947.  Gosh, that is the year he was born.
No transistors in this radio, just tubes.

Mark's comments:   It is always fun to go to these events to meet old friends.  I was first licensed in 1963 at the age of 16.  The hobby has changed a bit since then.  Talking to stations has not changed.  I made contact with two high school school special event stations in Texas and a ham in Greece, near Mount Olive this week on 20-meter single sideband.  He is Kostas "Gus" Vitsiotis, SV2CXI.  His English was good, but had a heavy Greek accent.

The stories go on and on.  Stop in again sometime.  I'll leave the soldering iron on for you.
