Engineer's Log
Duluth, Minnesota/Superior, Wisconsin Hamfest

Saturday, May 7, 2016:

Mark W0MH and Paula W0HA headed to the Duluth/Superior hamfest.
Radio Amateurs (Hams) gather to buy, sell, and trade electronic equipment.
It's a great time to meet and chat with old friends in person too.

Yes, hundreds of hams showed up for this annual event.

Paula smiled while Mark pointed to Heathkit gear that he remembers from the early 1960s when he was first licensed as a ham.
Mark was sporting his Zenith Long Distance Radio shirt.  Perfect for a hamfest.  Visit the Mark and Paula Hamshack.

Tim Verthein, engineer for KOZY/KMFY Radio in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, was there.
He was a happy guy picking up an old Collins 75A-3 Receiver from the 1950s...older than he is!

Good friends Nancy and Harold Bramstedt of Grand Marais, Minnesota, were there to sell used equipment.
They are also well known for selling transmitter tubes.

No hamfest would be complete without lunch at a local bistro.
In this case, it was the Anchor Bar in Superior.
They make the world's best hamburgers.
Fries are made from whole potatoes every day.

The stories go on and on.  Stop in again sometime.  I'll leave the soldering iron on for you.
