Engineer's Log of Mark W. Persons
IDS Center at Minneapolis, Minnesota

Monday, June 23, 2014:  This was a great day to visit the IDS Center in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The ground floor Crystal Court is shown on the left.  Paula went shopping while I headed for the "you are here" sign near the top.

I found my way to the roof to check on a radio station technical problem.

There were plenty of antennas to see above the 57th story of the building.

This place dwarfs the Foshay Tower, which was the tallest building in town for many years starting in 1929.

The IDS surpassed that in 1972

Five foot nine is all the taller I've gotten!

Veronica Rodriguez and Jess Meyer, engineers from Clear Channel, were there to show me around.

They have a well engineered setup.

I showed them how to tune and test cavity filters.

The test equipment included an RF spectrum analyzer with tracking generator, a return loss bridge, a dummy load, and two 6 dB pads.

All went well.

One of the views from the top of the IDS Center that day.

The skies were a bit hazy so visibility was not unlimited.

The Mississippi River more or less separates the Twin Cities.
Minneapolis is on the left and St. Paul is on the right.

Later I caught this image of the Stone Arch Bridge, which was lit just right for the occasion.
Once a railway bridge, it is now a pedestrian crossing of the river.

The stories go on and on.  Stop in again sometime.  I'll leave the soldering iron on for you.
