Engineer's Log of Mark W. Persons
Society of Broadcast Engineers

Friday, June 21, 2013:  It was an annual picnic for the Society of Broadcast Engineers Chapter 17 in Minneapolis/St. Paul.  This one was held at the twin-tower FM and TV site in Shoreview, on the north side of the Twin Cities.  The towers are just under 1500 feet in height.  About 20 radio and television radio broadcast engineers gathered to exchange ideas and see the high-power transmitters.

Jon Blomstrand from Hubbard Broadcasting was there again to BBQ hamburgers and brats for the crew.

He is a tireless worker and we thank him for his dedication to the SBE.

Leave it to an engineer to come up with an interesting solution.

This is how you eat a hamburger and potato salad all at once.

There were plenty of stories to be told....some of them true!

Fun to hear engineering stories.

Mark was pleased to see at least one young face at the meeting.

He is Ricky Weston, KSTP Television channel 5 Production Engineer.

The industry needs young men, and women for that matter, to work as radio and television broadcast engineers.

Steve Smit was there from Salem Communications.

This company has three stations in town.

Steve sometimes gets around on a motorcycle.

Always good to see him.

The stories go on and on.  Stop in again sometime.  I'll leave the soldering iron on for you.
