October 11, 2008: The sun breaks through clouds over Lake Superior shortly after sunrise in Duluth. The famous Aerial Bridge is starting another day at the head of the lakes. |

In Duluth and on the north shore of Lake Superior is a memorial to Vietnam veterans. It overlooks the lake much like a bunker overlooked jungle areas in that far away country so many years ago. The memorial is a tribute to those from the local area who fought there and for those who died there. |

On the
back are insignias for the five branches of the U.S. military. The
American flag and POW (Prisoner of War) flag fly above on this
less-than-hospitable day in October. An inscription there reads, "You Will Never Be Forgotten." |

Inside
the memorial are windows overlooking the lake. A lake boat can be
seen in the left window heading for the Aerial Bridge.

It is the American Victory. One of the oldest on the lakes, she was built as a tanker in 1943 during the middle of World War II. This mighty ship is 730 feet long and still flies the American flag. Lead on! |
