Transmitter Site Project

Mark Anderson, from KBUN/KBHP Radio in Bemidji, MN, helped in much of the construction.  Here. he is connecting a transmission line from the antenna to the transmitter for initial testing.

Yes, that is a fluorescent light fixture on the wall providing light to the work space.

It was determined that a 3-cavity band-pass filter was required to prevent unwanted RF mixing products from the transmitter.  So one from Electronic Research was installed and tested by your intrepid radio broadcast engineer, Mark Persons.  He used an IFR A7550 Spectrum Analyzer to prove compliance with FCC rules.

Note the large transmitter schematic on the wall above the filter.

Here is Mark again standing in front of the vintage 1976 Collins 831F-2 10KW FM transmitter that he rebuilt for the job in 2007.  He tuned it to 104.5 MHz and kept the original Collins 310Z-2 FM Exciter as the backup exciter.  Sine Systems remote control is a part of the project as usual.

With and oldies format, WQXJ Radio in Blackduck, MN, is heard on 104.3 MHz.  It is a class C3, 8.5 KW ERP at 148 meters (486 feet).

Their telephone number for WQXJ Radio is 218-444-1500.
