The Hunts and the Persons'

Hunt Technologies started in 1985 with an idea from the fertile mind of Paul Hunt.  The idea had nothing to do with making money, but had everything to do with transmitting data from point A to point B using almost no power.  The idea was to send data slowly within an ultra narrow bandwidth.  This came at a time when the world was asking for faster and faster data throughput.  Ultra narrow bandwidth technology was patented by Paul Hunt and evolved into electrical power meter readers called Turtles.

Today, millions of power meters at homes and businesses have Turtle transmitters that send electrical usage information back to power substations.  Power companies quickly embraced the technology because it reduced or eliminated the need to have people read the meters.  In addition, they get information on peak power usage times and tracking for power outages.

Hunt Technologies constructed a $5 Million building in 1999.  It is located near Pequot Lakes, MN, and has 40,000 square feet.  The photo shows Paul Hunt, his wife Lynn, Paula Persons, and Mark Persons stop to wave for a camera while on a tour of the facility.

Our friendship goes back to the early 1970's.  Paul Hunt and Paula Timman (now Paula Persons) went to school together in Brainerd, MN, and graduated in 1972.  Paul Hunt and Mark Persons worked on numerous electronics ideas together before Paul graduated and went to college in Fargo, ND.  The friendship continued when Paul returned, with his wife Lynn, and has flourished over the years.

Hunt Utilities Group: Paul and Lynn have moved on to more technology development.  This time it is straw-bale building construction.  They have a research campus where buildings heat themselves (even in Minnesota).  They also are working on sewage reprocessing and reuse, along with alternative energy.

Paul (Amateur Radio call WBØDAA) stands near one of the wall sculptures on one of the research buildings.

Bob McLean, Chief Operating Officer and General Manager of Hunt Utilities Group visited at the M. W. Persons facility on August 1, 2012.  Bob is a wonderful guy and Hunt is lucky to have him running the show.
